Lasagne.
This is a great take on the classic Italian Lasagne, a filling pasta dish that’s delicious. We give you the option to make this Lasagne without a cheeses sauce.

Hot Girls Cooking recommends you add a side dish of salad to your Lasagne meal.

INGREDIENTS:

Olive oil,
1 x large onion,
Lasagne pasta sheets,
1kg of prime NZ Beef mince,
Spinach (3 portions of Talley’s frozen spinach),
2 tins of Pasta sauce (425gm x2),
Mixed herbs,
Cumin,

Cheese sauce:
Butter,
Milk,
Flour,
Cheese.

Method:

Preheat your oven to 180o degrees Celsius.

If you do not want to use a microwave for your frozen spinach you need to prepare this before you start the meat sauce. Use a pot of boiling water to cook the spinach. Once your spinach is cooked stain to remove any excess water and put to one side while you prepare the other ingredients.

Meat sauce:
Roughly chop 1 large onion,
Add a good sprinkle of mixed herbs and a pinch or two of cumin,
Sauté together on a medium heat in olive oil.

When the onion is soft, add and brown your mince.
we use 1kg of Beef mince but you can use less.

Once the mince is browned Drain off (any) excess liquid,
To the frying pan add your 2 tins of pasta sauce,
Bring to a Simmer,

Microwave 3 portions of frozen spinach on high for about 3 minutes,
Cover with a lid while microwaving.
Add your spinach to the meat sauce,

Now make your cheese sauce.
If you want you can make this Lasagne without cheeses sauce just skip this step.

In a medium sized saucepan:
Add and Melt a good knob of butter (2-3 tablespoons),

Once the butter has completely melted
Add the same amount of flour (about 2-3 tablespoons),
Stir the butter and flour together until it is a lump free Roux,

Move the Roux to one side of your saucepan,
Mama G said “you can add warm milk, but this method works well”.

The method:
Move the Roux to one side of the saucepan and add a splash of milk to the other side, warm the milk in the saucepan, then move the warm milk into the roux and mix them together.
Repeat multiple times until you have a nice quantity white sauce.

Add a generous amount of grated cheese.
Stir & melt the cheese into the white sauce.

Now we are ready to assemble the Lasagne.

Assemble the Lasagne.

In a good sized oven proof dish.
Add a layer of your mince sauce.
Then add a layer of Lasagne pasta sheets,
The pasta sheets are uncooked and break easily. Use some broken halves or quarters to ensure you cover the whole layer of mince sauce.

Follow the pasta sheets with layer of cheese sauce on top.
Evenly spread the cheese sauce.
If you are not using cheese sauce you will simply skip this step.

Next add another layer of mince.
Then another layer of Lasagne sheets on top of the mince.
Continue layering until you have used all your ingredients.

If you are not using cheese sauce make your final top layer the mince sauce (not pasta sheets).
If you are using cheese sauce make your final top layer cheese sauce and top with additional grated cheese.

Put the dish in your preheated oven at 180o degrees Celsius.

After 15 minutes your pasta will be cooked and your lasagne will be ready to eat.
Before you dish your Lasagne check a portion to make sure your pasta is nicely cooked and soft.
If the pasta is under-cooked return the dish to the oven until cooked through.

We recommend serving with a salad & maybe some garlic bread.
