10 day controlled food exercise.
Detox your liver and intestine.

We are back to eating all food groups today after 10 days of the following detox diet. Medically I cannot say if there is any change but psychologically my internal organs feel cleaner. My body is taking care of me and I am taking care of my body!

Overall the detox was not hard, we could eat as much fruit and vegetables as we wanted. I personally thought I found myself eating a lot. I really liked the dried dates, cranberries and prunes. After the first 2 days my body settled down into a regular pattern.

Determination played a large part in sticking to the diet initially. Cravings for meat, hamburgers of all things and I was forever nibbling … celery or carrot sticks and fruit. Perhaps this was my mind substituting eating a lot of the approved foods instead of eating the forbidden foods.

I did experience a little bloating during the middle 3-5 days of the diet, and I was flatulating frequently. Dinners for the first few days were soups and then during the middle period we went to salads with Tzatziki dressing. I gravitated towards eating yoghurt and dried fruit for the last couple of days. It was what I felt like eating and was refreshingly sweet, sour and filling.

I did notice a weight loss. I went from 86 to 81.5 kg’s with a slight slimming around the waist. We did not undertake this as a weight loss diet but as a body cleansing exercise. Overall I found myself sleeping well, this was probably due to not drinking coffee.

I enjoyed eating celery, carrots and fresh fruit.
My cold drinks were water with a squeezed fresh lemon, orange or grapefruit.
My hot drinks were licorice tea, Mee Chai tea and an occasional Miso soup.

During the diet we continued all normal activities including exercise. There was no loss of energy or fatigue. I intend to do one more detox diet before Christmas, hey I figure my body has had it quite hard for a long time and if I can do something to give back to it it’s worth it.

Forbidden foods:
Cereals, grains, nuts, seeds & rice. Potato and kumara (taro/ sweet potato).
Sweetened drinks or processed drinks (including store brought orange juice), Milk.
Sugar & sweets.
Processed foods (anything with preservatives from a can), including fruit salad.
Sauces: tomato, sweet chili, fish, oyster, mint…..

Allowed foods:
Fresh fruit & vegetables.
Dried dates, prunes, apricots, cranberries and raisins.
Ginger, garlic, salt, paprika, fresh chili, salt and pepper
Unsweetened yogurt.

Recommended food.
1. Berry smoothies (make with yogurt and berries, add a little water to thin it down).
2. Water with a little fresh squeezed lemon, orange or grapefruit.
3. fruit salad (fresh fruit) and yogurt.
4. Yogurt with dried fruit.
5. Vegetable (fresh) soup.
6. lots of fresh fruit, bananas & apples were great for me and before this diet I had not eaten apples for years.
7. Celery sticks and whole carrots.
8. Asparagus raw from the fridge, (I ate it by the stem during the last few days and it was delicious).
9. Broccoli (high in calcium, protein and vitamin C),
10. Strawberries.

Below is an outline of what I ate.
I ate lots until the last few days when I found myself not feeling the need to eat as much.

The fruit was just great to eat and especially the asparagus, it really was a mind exercise as I found no reason to eat any of the foods I was craving.

Day 1:
Eliminate the following foods:
Grains, bread and rice.
No milk.
No sweet drinks.
No sweets, sugar.
You can have:
Meat & black coffee.
Fruit and vegetables.

Day 2:
From Day 2 onward I drank no coffee.

Eliminate everything except:
Fruits and vegetables.
Ginger, garlic, salt, paprika, fresh chili, salt and pepper.

2 cups of Mee Chai tea
1 glass of tomatoes juice – from a bottle.
I ate a lot of carrots, apples and had soup for dinner with yoghurt.
Celery sticks and avocado.
Prune yogurt smoothie.
lots of water.

Day 3:
Same as day 2.

Ate lots of carrots, celery and apples & fruit salad today.
Also ate several helpings of dried apricots, dates and prunes.
We had soup for dinner with salt and pepper, yogurt and hot sauce.
1 cup of Miso soup from a packet.

Hot drinks of Mee Chai tea.
lots of water and water with lemon juice (fresh lemon)
Prune yogurt smoothie.

Also eating leftover soup – 1 cup at a time – reheated in microwave

Day 4:
Licorice tea,
Yogurt and fresh fruit salad. lots of water.
Fresh fruit, apples and oranges.
Soup for evening meal.
Water with lemon juice (fresh lemon).

No coffee – having hot drinks is helping.
Feeling a bit better today, yesterday I was a bit ‘head-achy’ not really sore, more of a heavy head.
Nice movement this morning, nothing loose & not too much, not too little.

Day 5-8:

All good
Eating salads.
Drinking water…
Carrot juice….
a couple of Yogurt and berry smoothies.
Vegetable soup for evening meals.

Nice Greek salad today (Tzatziki),
Cucumber, yogurt and garlic,

About day 8 I stopped craving salt.

Days 9 & 10:
Asparagus raw from the fridge (yum),
Lots of unsweetened yogurt and dried fruit.
Fresh fruit, apples and grapefruit.
Salads for evening meals.

Day 11:
We broke detox diet.

You should ease back into normal eating.
Don’t over eat any one food.

Be careful with sugar, don’t eat a lot of sweets and drink a lot of sweet drinks. Be kind to your body.

We recommend:
1/3rd of a glass of cranberry juice topped off with soda.
This is both refreshing and sweet!

If you want you can introduce a food group a day to see if they have any ‘reaction’ to them (i.e. first day reintroduce breads and grains. Second day reintroduce meats….). If you feel ‘un-well’ you can try to eliminate that food from your diet and see if you get any health benefits.
